The skin grafting equipment available in today’s operating theatres is not suitable for use in children. It is too large, too heavy and unwieldy. Halldór Einarsson (Bachelor, ETHZ) and Patrick Heutschi (Bachelor, ZHdK) addressed this problem and developed a new product concept together with Zurich Children’s Hospital.

For the first time, the adjustable, rotating ring blade allows physicians to follow curved wound contours without affecting healthy tissue. The well thought-out ergonomics of the handle facilitate both instrument handling and maintenance.

Following its national nomination, Kind Dermatome was nominated for the top 20 of the prestigious international 2015 James Dyson Awards.
